President’s Message – Terrye Zaremba

It’s been five months since the last Newsletter in November, 2008.  It’s now April and apparently time for the April showers and up and down temperatures! I have served as President since last May and have agreed to run for President again.  The Annual Meeting is Sunday, May 17 at 2 PM.  Election of the new Board of Directors will take place at this time.  The current nominations are:

President – Terrye Zaremba

Vice President – Curt Walker

Secretary – Chris Rogers

Treasurer – Charlie Anderson

Two-Year Trustee – Jim Powell

Director – Pat McKnett

There are still 2 positions we need to fill (Trustee & Director).  All residents who have paid their dues are eligible to vote and run for office; nominations will be taken from those attending the meeting.  Note that those owners who attend the meeting will have a chance to win A FREE 2009 DUES PAYMENT.  (Current Board members will be excluded).

Please see the insert for the FAMILY FUN DAY on June 13 at 1PM. Everyone from Calvert Beach is welcome.  We could use some help from the community to bring a side dish, sodas, cups, plates, etc. or to just help out.

Community

Missing Street Signs – The two street signs that were missing from Chesapeake Ave. have been replaced by the County; they also placed a new sign where Calvert Beach Rd. becomes Bayview Ave.  Once again the County has been responsive to our requests.

Signs for Parking Lot – To ease the parking problems, Jim Powell will place the two signs to indicate where cars with trailers and those without should park.

Mowing of Parking Lot  - Travis Thorne has agreed to mow the boat ramp area.  Thanks, Travis.

Towing – E and R Automotive will tow cars illegally parked on Calvert Ave. by the boat ramp.  A sign has been placed on the gate to indicate this and gives their telephone number.

Crimes/Vandalism – Two incidents of vandalism: spray painting of a garage door on Beach Dr. and a car on Ave. D.  If you have information on these, please call the Calvert Sheriff at (410) 535-2800. A rear license plate was stolen from a vehicle on Forest Trail.  If you have information on this incident please contact the State Police at (410)535-1400.  A good note: a person allegedly responsible for neighborhood break-ins was arrested in December.

Also be aware of increased theft of GPS devices, even if they are put away, thieves look for wires or suction cup marks.

Death  - With sadness, we note the death last year of Steve Krembs a former CBCA President.  He did many difficult tasks for CBCA.

Avenue D Stair – Doug Crow and Jim Powell have volunteered to power wash and apply stain to the stair.  Many Thanks.  Doug Crow is investigating having Smeco install a light at the stair.

Security – CBCA, Flag Harbor and LBCA are again paying for security patrols of the community.  In addition, Charlie Bauerdorf attends bi-monthly County-wide Community Watch meeting where police officers get information and share ideas about community problems.  Please e-mail CBCA if you are having a problem.  Of course, call the Calvert Police or Maryland State Police if it is an immediate problem.

Mosquito Control – This program will start again after Memorial Day 2009.  Spraying is based on actual adult mosquito population counts obtained at monitoring stations.  Pat McKnett has been in charge of the program for quite a few years and would appreciate another community member taking this over.  Thanks to Pat for doing this.

Landscaping – Mike’s Works LLC has volunteered to maintain the landscaping at the sign at the intersection of Calvert Beach and Long Beach Roads.  Check out his website at www.mikesworksllc.com or call him at 410-586-9848.

Mowing of Parking Lot - Travis and Devin from Green Thumbs Lawn Care will be maintaining the grounds at the boat ramp this summer.  They can be reached at (410) 258-8633 for your landscaping and mowing needs.

Both of the above two firms are run by Calvert Beach residents and we thank them for giving back to their community.

PAYMENT OF DUES

Included with this newsletter is an invoice for 2009 dues. The dues are still $40 and a new ramp key is still $10 (replacement of a lost key is $50).

This year we will be mailing out two PARKING PERMITS for parking at the boat ramp and will be issued when dues are paid.  These should be placed on the dashboard or visor of your vehicle(s).  In addition, the boat ramp lock will be changed on July 1, 2009.  New keys may be obtained after the annual meeting on May 17th and any time after that from Terrye Zaremba at (410) 586-3839 (no charge with return of old key).

We on the Board are volunteers and would appreciate more help from the community!!!  Hope to see you at the Annual Meeting.
