COMMITTEES:

Community Watch -  Chris Savage said that no meeting will be held in February.  He plans to attend the next scheduled meeting in March 2010.

Beach Erosion - Terrye Zaremba recapped her correspondence with Terry Shannon, Calvert County Administrator, regarding the condition of the Avenue D stairs to the beach.  Mrs. Zaremba then reviewed data gathered around 2004 concerning requirements for forming a tax assessment district and unsuccessful community efforts to do so at that time.  Doug Crow noted that two separate issues are involved:  a) how to obtain a tax district designation and b) what the funds should be applied to once obtained, e.g., structural vs. vegitation efforts to mitigate erosion.  The board voted to pursue the possibility of establishing a tax district comprised of the waterfront home owners.  Mr. Crow volunteered to chair a committee to work on this matter.  Pat McKnett and Tina Murphy volunteered to work with him.

Many of the board members plan to attend a town hall meeting on February 20, 2010.  The purpose of the meeting, which is being sponsored by State Representative Anthony O'Donnell, is to discuss shoreline erosion and the tiger beetle.

Contractors for Stairs - Mr. Anderson called six contractors and received an estimate from only one of them for making repairs to the Avenue D stairs.  The estimate was over $7,000.00.  The board then discussed the possibility of holding a fundraiser to help pay for the repairs.  No decision was reached.  The board agreed to consider this idea and Mr. Anderson will try and obtain additional estimates.  There will be follow-up at the next board meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

Eyesore Enforcement -  Due to the recent bad weather, this topic was deferred for discussion at future board meetings.

Meeting Announcement - Sign/Stores - Nothing new was reported.

501-3C and Equipment to Fix Stairs - These topics were discussed under "Beach Erosion" earlier in the meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

Plans for Erosion Control/TV Show - Mr. Anderson recorded a Discovery channel TV program on cliff erosion and the tiger beetle here in Calvert County.  He showed it to interested board members following the meeting.  Thank you!

OTHER ISSUES -

Advertising in the Newsletter -  Mrs. Zaremba read a suggestion emailed from Maria Buehler that the board consider soliciting advertisements from local merchants for inclusion in the CBCA Newsletter as a means of raising funds for the association.

Plowing at Boat Ramp Entrance -  It was determined that CBCA is responsible (not the county) for maintenance of the road just in front of the gate to the boat ramp.  Mrs. Zaremba will arrange to have said area plowed.

Condolences - Mr Crow asked that we all join in offering condolences to our Trustee, Mrs. McKnett, on the recent passing of her husband, John Wayne McKnett.  He will be sincerely missed in the community.

April Newsletter -  Mr. Anderson reminded everyone that the deadline is approaching for completion of the CBCA April Newsletter.  Topics should be submitted ASAP.

NEXT MEETING;   Monday, March 15, 2010, 7:00 PM at the Long Beach Community Center.
