TREASURERS REPORT:

04/19/09 Balance =             $ 9,040.98

Total Deposits =                      3,060.00 ($2,840 dues, $180 donations, $40 keys)

Total Disbursements =                   0.00 (for the new year)

05/17/09 Balance =             $12,100.98

An audit of the books has been done and all was fine.  However, Dale Middleton noted that because no audit was done on the keys, the audit actually is not complete. Dale received money for the keys but no reconciliation was done.

COMMUNITY WATCH:  Charlie Bauerdorf attended the 05/11/09 meeting.  He reported that a team has been formed for the purpose of educating the community on how to keep neighborhoods safe.  This team will come to any community meeting to talk on this subject.  Dave Portyrata (Long Beach Civic Association President) said that the LBCA will coordinate with the neighborhood watch people. Jennifer Walker suggested that a list of contacts (e.g., sheriffs office, zoning board) be added to the CBCA website and also be included in the next community newsletter.  The board voted to adopt this suggestion.

SECURITY PATROLS:

Dave Portyrata gave a report on recent patrols.  Two off-duty police officers (both of whom are very familiar with the Calvert Beach and Long Beach areas) patrol our communities and submit bimonthly reports to Dave.  He then shares these reports with CBCA.  The officers are paid bimonthly, contingent on the submission of their reports.  Beginning on 04/22/09, the patrols include walking the beaches at night on Fridays and Saturdays, the timing of which will be at the officer's discretion.  Dave reported on various recent results of the patrols, including a drug bust at the end of Long Beach Drive, removal of some disorderly people congregated near Douglas St. and Calvert Beach Rd., and removal of illegal sports vehicles.  Flag Harbor is also contributing to funding of the patrols.

MOSQUITO SPRAYING:   The test trap was installed on Curtis Walker's property and is operational.  Pat McKnett recommend that the board budget $500 for spraying this year.  This represents a $200 reduction from the amount budgeted last year, based on last year's expenditure.  Pat reported that only two residents refused this service in 2008 for animal related reasons (fish pond and dogs).  Spraying will begin soon.

ROADS AND DRAINAGE:  Terrye Zaremba said that Calvert County had responded to CBCA requests this past year in replacing three damaged stop signs on Bayview Avenue  and Calvert Beach Road and by putting up a new street sign where Calvert Beach Road turns into Bayview Avenue.  There was nothing new to report on drainage.  Jennifer Walker asked if anything is being done about Calvert Beach Rd.run off and about the possibility of sidewalks and walkways being installed.   Terrye said that CBCA has approached the county before but has been told that the funding is unavailable.  Jennifer offered to contact Mark Willis at Calvert County Public Works department about this topic to express the citizen's concerns.

BEACH EROSION:  Tina Murphy continues to work on getting the dangerous exposed pipe removed from the beach area.  Well rings are not doing much to stave off erosion, but Terrye thinks beachfront property owners will need to get together on this.  Dave reported that this would be a significant and costly project.  Charlie Anderson estimated the cost at approximately $35,000.   Bettejane Middleton noted that only people who use the beach would likely be interested in chipping in on the cost of this.

Doug Crow’s plan to put “pyramids” along the shore to help preserve the beach was briefly discussed & more information is needed on this plan.

BOAT RAMP AND PARKING:   Charlie distributed the new boat ramp parking permit cards to dues paying attendees. Chris Rogers will mail out the permits to all other dues paid property owners.  Dale Middleton asked why we are providing 2 cards per household.  Terrye said it is in case owners have more than one car or if they need one for guests.   This is the same as LBCA's policy.  Terrye estimated that new boat ramp gate keys will be ready by 06/06/09 and we will begin using new locks around the first of July.  Jim Powell, CBCA Director who is in charge of the keys and locks, is recovering from surgery.  At Bettejane's suggestion, Terrye will send a "get well" card to Jim and the best wishes of the CBCA for a speedy recovery!

FAMILY FUN DAY:  The first CBCA Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday June 13, 2009 beginning at 1:00 PM at the boat ramp (rain date, June 14th).  Terrye asked for volunteers to bring a few things (e.g. paper goods, salads, munchies).  All Calvert Beach residents are welcome and urged to attend.  In addition to food, there will be games, a treasure hunt for children and a presentation on fossils by Dr. Stephen Godfrey of the Calvert Marine Museum.

ST. LEONARD TOWN MEETING:   Terrye noted that the St. Leonard  Town Center Master Plan & Zoning Ordinance Update will be presented on Monday May 18th at St. Leonard Elementary school.  As a related issue, Jennifer asked if something could be done about the loitering around the Fast Stop in St. Leonard.  Dave said that he knows that the Calvert County Sheriffs office is aware of this and is keeping an eye on the situation.

PRESIDENT'S COMMENTS:  Terrye offered thanks to all those who have worked over the past year on the maintenance of the stairs at Avenue D -- especially Charlie Anderson, Tina Murphy, Jim Powell, Bob Waller and Charlie Bauerdorf.  She also thanked all other volunteers who have contributed to improvements in the Calvert Beach community.

CALL FOR COMMUNITY INPUT:   Dale nominated Doug Crow for Director for this year's election of officers.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS:  Charlie (head of the nominating committee) read off the candidate slate of nominated officers:  For President, Terrye Zaremba, For VicePresident, Curtis Walker, For Treasurer, Charlie Anderson, For Secretary, Chris Rogers, For One Year Trustee, Pat McKnett.  Added to the slate were For Director, Doug Crow.  Chris Savage agreed to add his name to the slate, For Director.  (Jim Powell remains in his post as Two Year Trustee).  Bob Waller moved that the slate of officers be accepted.  His motion was voted on and passed.

CBCA sincerely thanks outgoing officers Dale Middleton (Treasurer) and Tina Murphy (Director) for all they have contributed to the successful efforts of the organization!

A drawing for one year's free dues was held after the election.  Congratulations to the winner - Bettejane Middleton!

INCOMING PRESIDENTS COMMENTS:  Terrye thanked everyone for coming and she looks forward to leading the CBCA, with the other board members and community participant involvement, through another successful year of activities.  She then adjourned the annual meeting.
